Our Annual Youth Food Drive Food Drive is usually held on the first Saturday in March. We start signing up groups for the March Food Drive from September through December.
The entire Youth Service Council Program is run by High School students.
High School students are needed throughout the year to organize and coordinate the Youth Food Drive Program. Leaders are needed to assemble teams for the various areas of the Tri-Valley and East Contra Costa areas. The teams recruit volunteer organizations to collect food for the March Food Drive, make group assignments Distribute bags to the organizations, participate in publicizing the event, edit the web site and manage the collection sites. A separate group of students will be involved with development and operation the Youth Service Council as a nonprofit corporation. This team of officers will have the opportunity to initiate new programs for the future.
Adult volunteers are asked to provide professional guidance. The student working on developing the corporation will need the assistance of a corporate attorney or accountant. The web site volunteers will need advisor to maintain the web site. A business management adviser should be available to show students how to coordinate multiple organizations and community resources. Each year drivers are needed with vans or trucks to transport food on the day of the food drive.
